The Layperson's Daily Regimen
A morning-to-evening regimen of traditional Catholic prayers for spiritual defense. The Sign of the Cross to begin, the Guardian Angel prayer and St. Michael the Archangel for daytime protection, Psalm 91 for confidence, the Sub Tuum Praesidium and Anima Christi for surrender to Our Lady and Christ, and the Sign of the Cross to close. All prayers are in the public domain; the sequence is Recordor-native.
Morning — begin the day
Sign of the Cross
Prayer
The sign that begins every prayer. Prayed with intent — a declaration, not a reflex.
Our Father
Prayer
The prayer Christ himself taught. Offered as the first act of the day.
Hail Mary
Prayer
The Marian prayer of Luke 1. Ask Our Lady's protection for the day.
Guardian Angel Prayer
Prayer
The traditional prayer to the angel God assigned you at Baptism. Prayed at the start of the day places what follows in the angel's care.
During the day — confidence in battle
St. Michael the Archangel
Prayer
Leo XIII's 1886 prayer. Short. Prayed at the end of every low Mass 1886-1965; restored to daily practice by many Catholics today. When you feel the fight, this is the prayer.
Psalm 91 — He who dwells
Prayer
The psalm of protection. Prayed at Compline in the Roman Breviary. "He that dwelleth in the aid of the most High shall abide under the protection of the God of Jacob."
Evening — commit the day
Anima Christi
Prayer
The 14th century prayer of surrender to Christ. Traditionally prayed after Communion; also fits as an evening act of consecration.
Sub Tuum Praesidium
Prayer
The oldest known Marian prayer (3rd century). Ask Our Lady to keep watch through the night.
Sign of the Cross
Prayer
The sign closes the day the way it began. Bless yourself, bless the room, and go to sleep in peace.
